Jacksonville, TX - November 5, 2018

A book presentation and signing to be held at the Norman Activity Center, 526 E. Commerce, Jacksonville, Texas, on November 29, 2018, at 6:00 p.m.

Doug and Carol Hutchison traveled more than 15,000 miles across the state of Texas to photograph and interview 103 Texas law enforcement officers and K9s from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex to Lubbock and Dumas, Texas, to East Texas, and all the way to Eagle Pass. The result is a large coffee table book entitled Behind the Texas Badge featuring officers from cities, sheriffs’ departments, state park police, game wardens, school district police, motor officers, mounted patrol, and more. The amazing stories, told in the officers’ own words, range from heartbreaking to hilarious. It’s the passion project of Gainesville, Texas couple, retired 39-year Texas Peace Officer Doug Hutchison and his talented wife, freelance writer and photographer, Carol. The book is full of officer portraits, images of badges, shoulder patches, squad units, and firearms.

The Hutchisons were featured on Fox & Friends, as well as NBC-DFW. They served as keynote speakers at the Decatur Book Festival. Most recently, they learned that all original photographs, stories and notes from Behind the Texas Badge will be archived at the Briscoe Center for American History.

At the presentation and book signing on November 29, the Hutchisons will discuss how their idea for the project developed and how they accomplished their goal of publishing a book. They’ll recount stories from the road, and read emotional stories out of the book as well as show images contained in the book. Several featured officers will be present to sign their pages along with the authors.

*A portion of the profits from book sales will be donated to the Texas chapters of Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), and to a hunting and fishing program for the children of fallen officers named the Great Fall Huntventure, sponsored by the Texas Game Warden Association and the Tarrant Regional Water District Police.
